Ruera Estate is located in Juja, within Kenya’s Kiambu County, approximately 15 kilometres from the town of Ruiru. The estate covers more than 190 hectares of gently rolling hills, where coffee grows in rich red volcanic soil at an altitude of 1,577 metres. Production is built around professional farm management, careful quality control and a long-term commitment to sustainable agricultural practices.
This naturally processed lot is a blend of Batian, SL-28, SL-34 and Ruiru 11 varieties. The estate places great emphasis on selective hand-picking, careful sorting and drying the cherries on raised outdoor drying beds. Its natural coffees have also received recognition, with Ruera Estate winning first place in the Natural Coffees category at the Kenya National Taste of Harvest 2024–2025 competition.
In the cup, expect a pleasantly sweet and full-bodied profile with notes of caramel, wild berries and rosehip. Floral hints of rose and refreshing citrus are complemented by a slightly unconventional vegetal character reminiscent of tomato leaf. An interesting natural Kenyan coffee that combines classic fruitiness with a subtle, wilder fermentation character.
