PB Gatomboya #136 is a high-quality Kenyan coffee sourced from approximately 700 smallholder farmers in the Nyeri region. Grown at an elevation of 1770 meters above sea level, this lot is processed at the Gatomboya factory, part of the Barichu Farmers Cooperative Society. The farmers cultivate renowned varieties such as SL-28, SL-34, Ruiru 11, and Batian on rich volcanic soils, often intercropped with tea, maize, and bananas, and shaded by trees like Gravellea and Macadamia. This environment, along with annual rainfall of 1500 mm and moderate temperatures, contributes to the coffee’s vibrant profile.
The coffee is fully washed using clean water from the Kirigu River, with cherries carefully handpicked, pulped, fermented for up to 24 hours, soaked, and sun-dried on raised African beds for up to 21 days. Processing emphasizes quality, with multiple stages of sorting and grading to ensure only the densest, best beans make it through. This meticulous method results in a clean, bright cup that highlights the best of Kenyan coffee craftsmanship.
Cupping at an impressive 88 points, PB Gatomboya #136 offers a sensorial profile marked by bright citrus and herbal notes, complemented by raisin-like dried fruit and a long, tea-like finish. It showcases a balanced harmony between fruit and herbaceous qualities. Beyond its flavor, the coffee represents a cooperative model that invests in farmer support, including training and access to credit for school fees and farming inputs—making it not only a standout coffee but a product of meaningful community impact.
