Magarrissa Riripa #1 Organic is a high-quality washed coffee sourced from the Nensebo Riripa area in West Arsi, Ethiopia, near the Bale Mountain forest. Grown at altitudes between 1900–2100 masl, this lot represents a classic Ethiopian profile with a cupping score of 86.5. It offers clean, vibrant flavors of citrus, black tea, raw honey, and dried apricots, with sweet notes of plum, pear, and a jammy finish. The coffee is processed at the Riripa Washing Station, which works with over 740 smallholder farmers cultivating heirloom varieties such as Welisho and Kurume.
The processing is meticulous: cherries are hand-sorted, pulped using a traditional Agaarde Discpulper, and then graded by density. After fermentation of up to 72 hours, the beans are washed, soaked in clean water, and dried over 14 days in thin layers, followed by careful hand-sorting. This careful handling ensures a consistent, high-quality product. The station itself is relatively new, built in 2019 through a partnership with Haji Betro, and is located in a semi-forested area known for its rich rainfall and optimal conditions for coffee cultivation.
Following drying and warehouse conditioning, the coffee is moved to Addis Ababa for dry milling, where the parchment coffee is stored until it’s contracted and prepared for shipment. Samples are collected and evaluated on-site by Nordic Approach’s team in Addis to ensure strict quality control. Containers are typically stuffed at the dry mills and shipped via Djibouti to minimize delays. This traceable and organic-certified lot showcases the unique terroir of Nensebo and the care taken at every step from farm to export.
