Gitesi #3 – Rwanda

Gitesi #3 by Gahizi is a specialty coffee from Rwanda, produced at the Gitesi Washing Station in the Karongi region. The project is led by Aimé Gahizi, who builds on his family’s long-standing coffee-growing tradition while bringing innovation in processing and sustainability. The station works with more than 1,800 smallholder farmers who deliver carefully sorted Red Bourbon cherries grown at altitudes of 1,750–1,800 meters above sea level.

The coffee is processed using the washed method, which, combined with the region’s cooler climate, allows for precise control of fermentation. The result is a clean and structured cup profile with notes of yellow and dried fruit, pleasant pear-like acidity, and the sweetness of raisins.

Gitesi is not only about quality, but also about its impact on the local community. The station is Rainforest Alliance certified and actively invests in farmers through the distribution of seedlings and fertilizers, as well as providing health insurance and education. Through bonus programs, farmers are incentivized to deliver consistent quality while also gaining greater economic stability beyond the coffee harvest season. Every cup of this coffee represents not only a great taste experience, but also a story of sustainable and responsible production.
