Grown in the lush, volcanic soils of Nyeri County, Kenya, the Muthuthi-ini PB is a standout peaberry coffee produced by the Ruthaka Farmer Cooperative Society. This lot comes from smallholder farmers cultivating traditional SL28 and SL34 varieties alongside Batian and Ruiru 11, all of which thrive at high altitudes around 1,669 meters above sea level. These cultivars are prized for their resilience and ability to deliver vibrant, complex flavors, particularly when processed using the meticulous fully washed method typical of the region.

The Muthuthi-ini Factory follows careful post-harvest practices, including handpicking ripe cherries, extended fermentation, and slow drying on raised beds. This precision enhances the peaberries’ unique density and shape, which contribute to an exceptionally even espresso roast. Only about 5% of harvested cherries produce peaberries, making this a rare and meticulously sorted selection, highlighting the care and dedication of the 4,000 contributing smallholders.

Roasted specifically for espresso, this peaberry lot delivers a rich and syrupy cup profile. Expect layered sweetness with notes of black currant jam, juicy blackberry, and a smooth vanilla finish. The dense, rounded beans produce a concentrated flavor with a velvety texture and vibrant acidity—hallmarks of Kenya’s best coffees and a perfect showcase of Nyeri’s terroir in espresso form.
