Finca Aurora is a family-run coffee farm located in the mountains of Matagalpa, Nicaragua. It was acquired by the Ferrufino family in 2004, although their coffee journey began in 1992. The farm specializes in the Icatu varietal and sits at an altitude of 1,200 to 1,400 meters above sea level. Operating under sustainable practices, the farm produces high-quality fully washed coffee, which is graded as N.SHG.EP (Nicaraguan Strictly High Grown, European Preparation). The family's deep connection to the land and commitment to excellence are reflected in the quality of their coffee.
Dr. Enrique Ferrufino, a surgeon by profession, and his wife Silvia, a pediatrician, decided to pursue their passion for coffee by investing in Finca Aurora. Along with their three children, they have built a business that not only aims for quality coffee production but also prioritizes community well-being. Their values include fair wages, health services, education, and safe living conditions for workers. They also actively support nearby smallholder farmers, helping them improve their agricultural techniques and overall productivity.
Finca Aurora employs a fully integrated coffee processing system on-site. After careful handpicking, coffee cherries are pulped using an eco-friendly machine called an ecopulper. The beans, still in parchment, are then dried either on raised beds or patios. By conducting the washing, drying, milling, sorting, and bagging processes on the farm itself—at Beneficio Finca Aurora—the family maintains full control over quality. This vertical integration ensures that each batch of coffee meets high standards from harvest to export.
