Our new amazing Colombian Geisha from José Espinoza. He is a second-generation coffee producer. His farm, El Recreo, has been in his family for around 50 years. He runs his production together with his wife and son and also has 4 permanent employees helping him.

El Recreo is located in the town of Andes Altos in the Huilan municipality of Algeciras. Sized at approximately 4 hectares, the farm sits at 1700 masl and grows Castillo, Caturra and geisha varieties.

Each cherry is selectively hand-picked, with the help of 8 workers who are hired for additional support during that time of harvest. After picking is complete, the cherries are floated, then anaerobically fermented in a bag, and finally, dried in ‘marquesinas’.

Jose spoke to our partners at Cuatro Vientos about his future goals, sharing how he’d like to improve the quality of his coffee. He aims to do so by continuously investing in infrastructure and machinery so that he can standardise his processes.
