dried fruits, chocolate, caramels

The Del Paraiso producer organization was formed during a prolonged period of difficulty for producers in the area. Their primary buyer went out of business, and a long period of low coffee prices frustrated the small producers of this community. They knew their coffee quality was high, but most of the potential buyers were commercial buyers offering lower coffee prices. In 2001, they came together to use their economy of scale as an organization to seek new buying partners. They began working with our founder and director Nadine Rasch and her father about five years ago, and are happy to see this relationship grow - and especially pleased to see the quality of their coffee recognized and rewarded!

Jalapa sometimes experiences water scarcity, so the producers in the area tend to sell their coffee cherries rather than process lots at smaller wet mills. Coordinating smaller producers to sell cherries to one buyer requires planning and good communication. Raul Sanchez works with the producers to do the necessary coordination; on days when producers are picking coffee, a truck visits each plot of land to pick up sacks of coffee and transport them the same day to the wet mill for processing. The cherries are processed at our wet mill in Fraijanes, and then dry milled and prepared for export by our expert team.
