The Chorongi Factory is one of the Mutheka Farmers’ Cooperative Society's wet mills in Nyeri in Central Kenya. Nyeri is located on the slopes of Mount Kenya, and together with the neighbouring region, Kirinyaga, it is known worldwide for coffees with intense, complex, and flavour-dense cup profiles. The factory buys cherries from local smallholder farms. The farmers are organised into cooperative societies that act as umbrella organisations for the factories where the smallholders deliver their coffee cherries for processing.

Chorongi Factory is part of the Mutheka Farmer Cooperative Society. About 1000 of the Mutheka FCS's 5600 members deliver to the Chorongi Factory. The smallholder farmers who deliver cherry to the factory have an average of 250 coffee trees each. Other crops grown are maize, bananas and beans. The factory is receiving assistance from our partner Coffee Management Services (CMS). The long term goal is to increase coffee production through farmer training and input access, and Good Agricultural Practice seminars are conducted year-round. Our wish is to establish a transparent, trust-based relationship with the smallholder farmer, helping to support sustained industry growth in Kenya, whilst bringing premium quality to our customers, and premium prices to the farmers.
